Did You Hear That? Sonic Boom Heard Over Parts of Missouri

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) – If you heard what sounded like an explosion around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, you’re not alone.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received numerous calls and on its Facebook page, attributed it to a sonic boom. A sonic boom occurs when a plane travels faster than the speed of sound.

Some commenters weren’t convinced, alleging a government cover-up.

The Sheriff’s Department says it will post an update if the noise was caused by something other than a sonic boom.
