ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There’s concern over the water changing colors in the contaminated Coldwater Creek in North St. Louis County.
Parts of the water, south of Dunn Road and Interstate 270 are white and looks like paint.
Kim Visintine, founding member of the “Coldwater Creek — Just the facts” group, says it’s not believed to be any type of nuclear contamination.
There is no word from Army Corps of Engineers FUSRAP’s (Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program) Manager Bruce Munholand after reaching out to him for a statement.
Metropolitan Sewer District spokesman Lance LeComb says the discoloration appears to be some type of dye or possibly paint; however, they do not know its source. But MSD has notified authorities who will now handle the investigation.
LeComb reminds people not to dispose of paints or dyes in the storm water system because eventually it ends up in creeks. You should avoid the area around Coldwater Creek.
We will continue to update this story as the information becomes available.
