EDWARDSVILLE, Il. (KMOX) – We could find out within a few hours if the Granite City man accused of kidnapping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her newborn son will be returning to the metro east to stand trial.
At 8:30 this morning, Christopher Derleth is scheduled to appear before a judge in Charleston, West Virginia for his extradition hearing. Derleth is charged with aggravated kidnapping and child abduction.
The girl, Katherine Derleth, and her son, Christopher, disappeared from their guardian’s Edwardsville home on September 18th. They were found with Delreth six days later, at a makeshift campsite in the woods about 30 miles south of Charleston.
A protection order had been issued in Bond County, Illinois on August 16th, prohibiting Derleth from being near his stepdaughter.
If the judge approves the extradition, Delreth will likely arrive in the metro east within a few days.
