Chief Belmar: After Snyder’s Death, Emotional Pain Far From Over

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – St. Louis County police officers continue to work the streets, even as they grieve one of their own.

County Police Chief Jon Belmar says since 33-year-old officer Blake Snyder was fatally shot while answering a call last Thursday, it’s been a very difficult time emotionally for his entire department.

But the calls are going to keep coming in, he says, and there’s always a necessity for the police.

“We can’t stop and say, ‘OK, we need a little while here to just collect ourselves,'” Belmar says.

He feels this week’s funeral will help in the long-term healing process.

“I think it’s appropriate that, over the next two days we say goodbye to Blake in the right manner,” Belmar says. “I think it provides us some closure as a police family.”

Chief Belmar was a guest on the Mark Reardon show.

Snyder’s funeral is set for Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Family Church in Chesterfield.

At their meeting Tuesday, the St. Louis County Council will adopt a resolution in honor of Snyder.
