Study: Americans are Stressed Out by Presidential Election

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – What’s stressing you out? More than half of Americans say its the presidential election.

According to the new Stress in America survey conducted by the American Psychological Association, 52 percent of Americans are stressing out. Dr. Lynn Bufka says Americans are just as stressed about the economy as they are with the election.

And it’s equally concerning for men and women, Republicans and Democrats. But Bufka says there’s a bit of a difference when it comes to the age groups who are the most stressed.

“People who are ‘millennials’ and ‘matures,’ 56 and 59 percent of those groups were the most likely to say the election was a somewhat or very significant source of stress,” she says.

For those stressed out about the election, Bufka suggests getting away from the 24 hour news cycle from time to time, avoiding political discussions at work and realizing whatever happens on Election Day, life will go on.
