O’Fallon Standoff Ends With Police Using Chemical Agent

O’Fallon Mo. police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Sunny Slope Court just before 11, Friday morning. A man was in an upstairs bathroom threatening to kill himself after he allegedly assaulted his 39 year old girlfriend with a firearm.

Swat team members and negotiators arrived and began talking with the suspect. After no results–a chemical agent was shot into the residence and the man surrendered.

He’s been identified as 44 year old Gregory Alan Potthast. He is now facing charges of 2nd degree domestic assault–and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held on a $25,000 cash only bond.

O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOX) – Charges are pending against a man involved in a Friday morning standoff with police in O’Fallon, Missouri.

Officers say the 44-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a weapon, then barricaded himself inside a residence in the 1100 block of Sunny Slope Court.

After several unsuccessful tries by St. Charles County Regional SWAT Team negotiators to get the man to come out on his own, they had to use a chemical agent to force him out.
