ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – (UPDATED 11:45 a.m.) A petition is rallying more community support for fallen St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder and his family.

Dawn Oppy, of Affton, Missouri, posted a petition on to change the name of Clydesdale Park to Blake Snyder Memorial Park in honor of the slain officer.

St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger says after hearing about the petition, and doing some research on how to quickly change the name of Clydesdale Park, he thinks he can pull it off with an executive order.

Stenger says he can sign such an executive order within days.

The petition received over 3,000 signatures in just a few days.

Oppy writes “Officer Blake Snyder was a true hero, who selflessly put his own life on the line to protect our families. Let’s honor him by keeping his name alive in our community!”

There are also hundreds of restaurants participating in a “Dine Out” event for Officer Snyder on Nov. 1 where proceeds will be donated to the Snyder family.

Officer Snyder’s widow, Elizabeth, posted a message of thanks and sadness on Facebook over the weekend. She says the pain has not subsided since her husband was killed, but their 2-year-old son, Malachi, keeps her going.

She writes “Although this suffering seems never ending, the outpouring of love and support from the Saint Louis community (and all over the nation) has been overwhelming…[because] of you, Malachi will ALWAYS know who his father was.”
