ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Despite a disappointing experience here in 2005, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is bringing its big General Conference back to the America’s Center in 2025.
Explore St. Louis President Kitty Ratcliffe says the group’s first experience in St. Louis was not a positive one, but the city’s redevelopment lured them back.
“It’s one thing to sell a piece of business the first time, it’s another thing to sell it when they’ve been here once and didn’t like it,” she says.
Downtown has changed a lot since they were here last time.
“There were virtually no activities for people. There were no restaurants, there was a shuttered mall, St. Louis Center was not active by that time, you had the vacant Dillard’s department store with broken windows,” Ratcliffe says.
The convention is slated to bring 65,000 attendees expected to generate $55 million in direct spending.
