Alton Woman Votes Trump For Dead Husband

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) – An election judge in the Metro-East is accused of sending in an absentee ballot in her late husband’s name.

Audrey Cook tells The Associated Press that she filled out the ballot for her husband because “he wanted to live so badly to see (Donald) Trump straighten out this stinking mess.”

The 88-year-old lives in Alton. Her husband, Vic, died in September.

Audrey Cook was charged Friday with two felony election-fraud counts. Cook says she hasn’t been taken into custody or told when to report to court.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons told the Belleville News-Democrat that absentee ballots state that submitting a ballot for someone else constitutes perjury.

Gibbons said Cook will be removed as election judge.
