ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Jamies Rivers is expecting the upcoming Winter Classic alumni game to feature some classic old school hockey on December 31.
The alumni game between former St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks players takes place at Busch Stadium, two days before the the Winter Classic, on January 2. Rivers, a NHL defenseman for 11 seasons including five in St. Louis, says he’s been in contact with many of his former teammates who will be playing in that game.
“We could be doing something on December 31 that the hockey world has never seen,” Rivers says. “Which is picking up gloves and sticks all over the ice at an alumni hockey game.”
Rivers says he has already been skating with some of the guys like Cam Janssen, Kelly Chase, Barret Jackman and others, and dropping the gloves, or breaking a stick over someone’s head doesn’t seem to be out of the question.
As we know and everybody in St. Louis and Chicago knows, that the Blues and Blackhawks is a highly combustable combination,” Rivers says. “And at any moment it could go up in flames.”
