ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – For the millennial on your holiday shopping list, forget buying stuff.
According to a new Harris poll, 78 percent would rather have experiences than things.
Eddie Vigil of Argent Capital Management tells the St. Louis Business Journal that millennials – about 23 percent of Missouri’s population – aren’t buying real estate, so they don’t have anywhere to put all the “stuff.”
Experience-based retail spending has spiked 70 percent since 1987.
Coming soon to Ballwin is Flying Spider – a 31,000-square-foot “extreme recreation park.” That company’s CEO says retail is changing, and not for the better.
Case Lawrence says there will be a lot of retail space available in the next decade, and the direction is heading toward the “experiential customer experience.”
