ST. LOUIS (KMOX)(UPDATED 5:10 p.m. Tuesday) A deadly highway shooting on Interstate 55 south of the brewery.

It happened in the noon hour on southbound 55 within sight of the brewery near Utah.

St. Louis Police Capt. Mary Warneke tells KMOX that from what witnesses are saying, “it appears the victim was targeted; he was the intended victim.”

The suspects were in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a four-door, and the shooter was in the rear of the vehicle, she reports witnesses as saying. The suspects are two black men – one was wearing a hoodie.

Warnke says it does not appear the man killed had been shooting back at the car firing at him.

His pick-up truck pocked with bullets crashed, and Jarrell Foster, a 28-year-old St. Louis man, was found lying next to his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the accident.

Just a few weeks ago, the body of Maggie O’Brien’s owner Pat McVey was found in his vehicle at 55 and Loughborough. But police say the two cases do not appear related.

Our previous reporting is as follows:

Interstate 55 southbound is completely closed at Arsenal, leaving downtown, due to a police investigation.

Police are investigating the aftermath of a reported rolling gun battle on southbound Interstate 55 between Arsenal and Utah.

KMOX’s Kevin Killeen reports that shell cases scatter the highway for hundreds of yards, and the highway is shut down.

Police are expected to release more details shortly in a news conference.

Reports are that a man in his 20s was shot and killed while inside his vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Weeks ago, Maggie O’Brien’s owner was found shot to death a few miles down on the same highway.
