East St. Louis Man Convicted of Murder

BELLEVILLE, IL (KMOX) – An East St. Louis man faces up to 20 years in prison after his conviction Friday for murder. A St. Clair County jury found Melvin Smith guilty of second degree murder in the June, 2014 death of Charles Harper in East St. Louis. Sentencing is set for April 18th.

A co-defendent, Parry Gully of East St. Louis was acquitted of first degree murder last month.
