ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter has been suspended one game, reports multiple media sources.

Carpenter was ejected from Sunday’s game vs the Milwaukee Brewers. He and manager Mike Matheny were thrown out in the seventh inning by home plate umpire John Tumpane after Carpenter was called out on strikes. Carpenter made contact with an umpire when he was ejected.

When asked for his thoughts on the suspension, Matheny said, “It’s pretty clear to me with any type of contact that happnens, it’s going to normally be a day.”

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the team will not be appealing the suspension.

Matheny added that there may be a benefit though for Carpenter to sit another day to heal his finger injury from last week.
