ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A Missouri state senator is calling for EPA tests for possible radiation on a development site in north St. Louis.
State Senator Jamilah Nasheed says now that the Pruitt-Igoe site is being cleared for a hospital development, there needs to be thorough testing there for possible radiation from Cold War era spraying experiments at the site.
“There is no way in hell we should go and allow for developers to build there without an extensive study and tests as to if there are hazardous particles there,” she says.
The city of St. Louis says it hired a firm to test for radiation near the Pruitt-Igoe site, but test results are still pending. Nasheed says the city’s recent claims of doing tests across the street from Pruitt-Igoe is not close enough. She says the site itself should be tested.
