ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – What started as an effort to help people check on their homes in the Florida Keys turned into spearheading the revival of a Puerto Rican hospital for one St. Louis area businessman.

Corey Fritz of Fritz’s Custard says he’s not doing anything particularly special.

“My job, you can very simply describe it as finding the right resources who need to help one another and then putting them in contact with one another and getting little bit out of it for the hospital,” he says.

The results say otherwise though. He told says he helped 50 pilots land supplies on a private air strip in the Keys. The next day his phone started blowing up with more people needing logistical help. He was connected with some people from Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, a town trying to reopen an abandoned hospital after ten years. Thanks in part to Fritz’s help, the hospital’s been open for a little more than a month and has aided 1000 patients. He’s planning a first-time trip to Quebradillas next week.
