ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Thanksgiving Thursday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday….it brings us to the next special dedication, Giving Tuesday.

Started by a cultural center in New York City five years ago, Giving Tuesday is the kick off to the charitable season. You’ll see many organizations planning special events today.

Operation HomeFront Heroes is a new organization that provides veterans assistance to transition into a home life. CEO Elizabeth Bannon says that could include helping homeless vets, soldiers coming home who need help getting a job and even suicide awareness. She says this year, the group will be supporting homeless veterans for the winter.

“On Giving Tuesday we plan to give the gift of survival this winter season, and we’re doing that through Backpacks for Heroes. What we’ll be proving is backpacks which include hotel vouchers, food, clothing, and any kind of care kits that they may need,” she says.
