ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A Metro East charity continues to come up short this holiday season.

Sherry Gilleland with Dream Home Charities of Wood River says they’re only about one-fourth of their way to this year’s goal.

They’re trying to collect coats, gloves, non-perishable foot items, hygiene products and more to help up to 4-hundred needy area families.

They’ll start giving out supplies this Saturday.

“I’m not discouraged because every year the community seems to pull through, I’m holding on to my faith. If I didn’t have my faith I wouldn’t have anything, so I truly believe that we’re going to do this,” he says.

Gilleland continues to suspect that people are being thrown off by the unseasonably nice weather and have been slow to respond to their calls for help for this 6th annual drive.

Last year they filled two-and-a-half semi trailers.
