ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – One hundred union workers at a north St. Louis County nursing home are threatening to go on strike Friday morning. Worker Brenda Davis says management at the Christian Care home in the 800 block of Chambers is refusing to discuss the union’s request for a 75-cents an hour raise for all workers.

“They’ve not been bargaining in good faith, coming to the table with nothing, canceling at the last minute. We’ve been going through so much disrespect,” she says. Davis says management is laying people off and refusing to discuss the pay raise.

Neighborhood minister Reverend Tommy Pierson joined the workers at a rally on the sidewalk.

“This facility needs to live up to the name ‘Christian’… I challenge this facility and this management to begin to act like Christ,” he says.

Administrator Donna Cooper declined to comment. Both sides were scheduled to attend a mediation session this afternoon in the hopes of averting a strike.
