ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A century old organization is going to change it’s name this week. Neighborhood Houses will become Unleashing Potential with a celebration Wednesday. President and CEO Darlene Sowell says for years, people thought they provided utility or housing assistance, but what they focus on is early childhood education, before and after school services at 18 elementary sites, and teen job readiness programs.

“Including a social enterprise where young men of color, 16 to 18, in high school, actually make t shirts, and that program is called magnificent Creations,” she says.

Sowell says soon-to-be Unleashing Potential serves over a thousand children a day in St. Louis.
