ST. LOUIS, MO (December 6, 2017) – Sugarfire Smoke House is pleased to announce the opening of its 11th location at 118 Siemers Drive in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Based out of St. Louis, Mo., the award-winning smoke house’s newest location is already under construction and is slated to open in June of 2018.
Co-founder and chef Mike Johnson will once again join forces with Jim Cook and Matt Martin, current owner-operators of Sugarfire “44” in Valley Park and Sugarfire Winghaven in O’Fallon, MO, for the new location coined “Sugarfire Cape.” The fast-casual concept opened its flagship in 2012, and since Johnson, alongside co-founder Charlie Downs, have expanded Sugarfire’s imprint across Missouri to six locations, including a location within the National Blues Museum and an extensive catering program.
Known for its succulent brisket, pulled pork and ribs, Sugarfire has consistently been ranked best barbecue in St. Louis by local and national publications alike. Johnson has served as a celebrity pitmaster and competed in events stateside and beyond, including Hogs for the Cause, the Perth Yak Ales BBQ Competition, Memphis in May, Australia’s Meatstock, The Kansas City Royal, Charleston Wine & Food Festival and the World Food Championship. Furthermore, Johnson has been featured on a variety of national television shows, including Food Network’s BBQ, Brews & ‘Que (feat. Michael Symon), Destination America’s BBQ Pitmasters, and Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay!, Having interest in expanding into Cape Girardeau for a while, Johnson, alongside Cook and Martin, looks forward to offering Sugarfire’s award-winning barbecue to another locale of Missouri.
“We couldn’t be more excited to begin our project in Cape,” says owner-operator Matt Martin. “It’s such a neat town with so many great people living in it. We believe Sugarfire will be a good fit here and simply cannot wait for opening day to share our culinary barbecue concept with the community of Cape Girardeau.”
Currently under construction on a previously empty lot, Sugarfire Cape will be built to complement the Sugarfire brand many Missourians have grown familiar with. The interior will seat approximately 100 diners, and the exterior will boast a garden patio to serve around 40 additional guests. Taking centerstage is a 360-degree bar at the restaurant’s entrance, allowing all to enjoy beverages and boozy shakes while waiting in line to order their meals in addition to offering a quick way for guests to order desserts when exiting. The Sugarfire Cape menu will be consistent with the other locations, made-to-order on Ole Hickory smokers and offered alongside daily specials and sides crafted by Sugarfire’s classically trained chefs. The menu will also highlight local craft beer, boozy milkshakes, and in continuance of its previous partnerships, will feature local products from Excel Bottling, Fazios Bakery, Billy Goat Chip Co., 4 Hands Brewing and Urban Chestnut. Furthermore, Sugarfire Cape will be the closest yet to longstanding partner Ole Hickory Pits, which are designed, built, and manufactured just five miles from the new location.
Sugarfire Cape will be located at 118 Siemers Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701 and will open daily from 11 a.m. until sold out.
