ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Set a reminder – Monday is when the world-famous Shake Shack opens its first St. Louis location. Founder Danny Meyer is a St. Louis native, and says he food was inspired by his St. Louis roots.

There’ll be some STL-specific items on the menu of the Central West End Shake Shack, including one special burger and three unique frozen-custard blends. Meyer remembers a lot from his formative years here.

“I fell asleep almost every night of my life with a KMOX transistor glued to my ear,” he says.

Now Meyer is one of New York’s preeminent restaurateurs, but he says he learned the “meaning and feeling of genuine hospitality” while growing up in St. Louis.
