ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A warning about the risk of fire from the St. Louis Fire Department and the National Weather Service.

The concern is with leaves falling and the air being so dry, it’s causing fires.

“Over the weekend people were raking their eaves, moving them away from the front of the house and putting them in the street, so what happened was people were parking in these leaf piles and we had a couple of car fires, so we’re asking to people to pay attention to that,” says St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson.

The Fire Department tweeted a picture of one of those fires, a burning car engulfed in smoke.

The caption said leaves are combustible and they will burn, so residents are urged to not park cars over piles of leaves.
