ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Illinois State Police are ready for “Holiday Lifesavers Weekend”, in hopes of cutting down on traffic fatalities.
Master Sergeant Mike Link says troopers will be doing extra roadside safety checks and saturation patrols, Friday through Sunday.
“We’re going to be out there looking for those that are speeding, driving under the influence, driving distracted, people not wearing their seat belts. Those kinds of violations seem to be the primary cause of fatal traffic crashes,” he says.
Link says drivers are 23 times more likely to get into a crash while texting on a cell phone.
