ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Some Edwardsville residents would be able to keep up to six hens in residential areas under a bill to be taken up by the city council tonight.

The city would be able to issue 20 permits during a 24-month trial period under the measure, which also requires residents to get permission from abutting neighbors and keep the coop ten feet from their home and five feet from the propery lines.

If the council decides to keep the ordinance in place after two years, it would increase the number of permits to 40. Tonight will be the bill’s first reading.
