ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – One is dead after a major accident happened about 8 a.m. Tuesday, shutting down eastbound Interstate 64 before Interstate 270.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says one man died in the accident — the driver of a vehicle who cut off a tractor-trailer when changing lanes to exit onto I-270.
The vehicle lodged under the tractor-trailer, which caught fire, destroying both vehicles.
The highway patrol says there is no evidence the truck driver was distracted, and he was not hurt.
Four other vehicles were involved in the accident, and three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the patrol reports.
Crews are diverting traffic off eastbound I-64 at Mason and 141 due to the accident west of I-270.
Initial reports said 15 to 17 cars were involved.
A commuter sent a photo to KMOX, saying they could feel the heat off the vehicle fire as they drove by.
