Get Your “New Cool” Kicks on Rte 66 from KMOX
Saturday nights on KMOX, it’s the Rte 66 oldies experience hosted by International Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer Johnny Rabbitt who plays the music we grew up with and tells about his experiences with the stars over his 59 year career in broadcasting and the music biz. The regular Rte 66 show-time is 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in which Johnny fills the 50,000 watts of KMOX with the original songs by the original stars from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s along with fun facts and trivia about the way we were during these Rock ‘n’ Roll decades.
Rte 66 is a “trip” for Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and even Millenials as we present the widest variety of hits from St. Louis’ largest library of 45s and LPs. Rabbitt, who introduced The Beatles to St. Louis and was the MC of their first American concert tour, plays all their songs and talks about his experiences with them and other celebrities. Johnny, by the way, will host the St. Louis Symphony’s tribute to “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” Friday, June 28th at Powell Hall.
For each Rte 66 Solid Gold Saturday night there are themes such as: The 100 Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Songs of All Time, Rock ‘n Roll From A to Z, The Mississippi River Festival Revisited, The History of Rock ‘n’ Roll, The #1 Hit Parade…and more. If it’s Saturday night, it’s Rte 66 on KMOX.
