One of KMOX’s best known names, having started as the Resident Reviewer on the late Jack Carney’s Show in 1978, Harry Hamm reviews a wide variety of entertainment venues for listeners of the station. Over the years, the audience of KMOX has come to depend on Harry for in-depth reviews that are concise, entertaining and helpful to the listeners and their families when making decisions on how to spend their entertainment dollars in these tough economic times. Harry’s tenure as a film, theater, music and entertainment critic on KMOX is the longest of any broadcast reviewer in St. Louis. Harry’s reports are heard on KMOX immediately after opening nights of major theatrical presentations, and during Weekend Total Information AM on Saturday and Sundays mornings,. Harry ‘s reports cover the entire entertainment spectrum. In addition to over 150 movie reviews each year, Harry also provides critiques of presentations at the Fox Theater, The Muny, The Repertory Theater of St. Louis, Stages, The Black Rep and other important arts and entertainment venues like the St. Louis Symphony. As part of all these reports, Harry has provided interviews with some of the brightest and biggest names in the world of show business, like Arthur Miller, Paul Newman, Paul Mc Cartney, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, George C. Scott, Red Skelton, Julie Andrews, Gene Hackman and many others, as well as with composers, directors, producers and other important talents behind the scenes.
In addition to Harry’s reviews, for over six years he hosted the popular Entertainment & Trivia Show that was heard regularly on Sunday nights on KMOX for over 6 years.. The show garnered callers for all over the United States. Harry is well known to listeners of CBS owned and operated stations WWJ in Detroit and KCBS in San Francisco, where he has provided entertainment reviews for many years. Harry was also a regular contributor on the CBS radio netwrok feature, “In the Spotlight.” His duties at KMOX also include hosting of call-in programs on selected schedules and topics, which include the very popular Sports Collectibles Show and Grand Rounds with Dr. Joe Primrose.
Harry is popular as a public speaker on behalf of KMOX and makes appearances at many charitable and corporate groups in the area each year. In addition to his responsibilities at KMOX, Harry is President of his own marketing, sales and advertising consulting firm that specializes in community banking, healthcare organizations, telephone companies and corporate aviation. As part of this work, Harry does seminars on customer service excellence, sales and personal motivation.
A native St. Louisan, Harry lives in Chesterfield with his daughters Katie and Laura. A veteran of the United States Navy, Harry was the founder and first President of the Development Board of St. Louis Children’s Hospital and has been active in many other local charitable and community groups, including Wings of Hope and the Humane Society. Harry holds a Commercial Pilot’s license and has accumulated over 6000 hours of flying time in a wide variety of piston and jet aircraft.
Harry was awarded the annual Children’s Champion Award for 2007 by St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The award is given each year to someone in the community that has made significant and successful efforts toward the betterment & growth of the Hospital.
In the realm of public service, Harry also works with the Metro West Fire District in the development of public safety education and effective & timely communications with the communities and citizens the District serves.
Harry also serves as a member of the St. Louis County Emergency Planning Commission.
