Michael Dixon, host of the travel program Around the World in 60 Minutes, is a 30 year radio and television veteran, a featured personality on KMOX since 1984, and a travel junkie for as long as he can remember. Now, each Sunday afternoon at 5:00PM, Michael and co-host Louie Thiele from Vacation Network News, present special travel opportunities to exotic destinations around the world, give the latest deals on domestic and international air fares, and provide timely and useful information for travelers whether they’re planning an overnight business trip, or a world cruise.
Special guests offer advice on essential topics for travelers, such as new passport regulations, changing airline baggage limits, the best way to rent a car in Europe, how to pack for a week in an carry on bag. The Louie List segment spotlights both the useful and bizarre in travel, and has included the 10 best places to swim with sharks! Around the World in 60 Minutes often takes to the road, and has broadcast shows from London, Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong and the Fiji Islands, and other great vacation spots around the world.
Michael and his wife, Gaile, have led groups of travelers to the ruins of Machu Pichu, to Cuba, China, Australia, on African safaris, and on special flights aboard the Concorde. They have cruised to the Falkland Islands, explored the rivers of Russia, and led listeners to the pyramids of Egypt, the hidden markets of Morocco, and to Paris for the millennium fireworks at the Eiffel Tower. They’ve walked the Great Wall of China, hiked the ridged of the Canadian Rockies, and scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef, the shipwrecks of Tortola, and the reefs of Tahiti.
He holds degrees from the University of California, Riverside and the University of San Francisco, holds pilot ratings in land and sea aircraft, and is principal guest conductor of the Scottsdale Symphony.
