The official dedication ceremony for the new $115 million National Personnel Records Center just north of I-270 in Spanish Lake will be held this Saturday, Oct. 15. Officials with the National Archives and Records Administration offered a behind-the-scenes peek inside the records center, where much of the work done centers on trying to repair or otherwise retrieve information from records that were damaged in a devastating fire at the old facility on Page Boulevard in July, 1973. The new facility will hold more than 2.3 million cubic feet of the government’s military and civilian employee personnel records once the 18 month long process to move everything over from the old facility wraps up in late 2012.
