Don't Text & Drive: Highland High School
Students in Matt Elledge’s driver’s education class at Highland High School learned more about the hazards of texting behind the wheel Thursday. They watched news coverage of a 2002 crash in Las Vegas that left two girls dead and three others critically hurt, then heard from Madison County Assistant State’s Ellen Burford about the serious legal ramifications of getting caught. Sophomore Grant Burke said “message received”, he won’t text and drive. However…”I’ve been in a car with someone who was driving (while texting), and after taking this class I’ll tell them ‘Put the phone away because I don’t want to die’.” (KMOX/Brett Blume)
