Like so many other things these days, the announcement came via Twitter -- the Cardinals let the world know that work on Ballpark Village had begun in earnest.

The tweet read "Structural steelwork has begun on Ballpark Village -- let the countdown to Opening Day 2014 begin!".

The $100 million first phase of Ballpark Village just north of Busch Stadium will include a restaurant, a rooftop seating deck for watching the game, and the first-ever Cardinals Hall of Fame. (KMOX Brett Blume)
