Crestwood Mall's Final Day
7/10/13-It might have once seemed unthinkable, but Crestwood Mall closed its doors for the final time on Wednesday. A dedicated group of walkers who used the long, empty hallways as an exercise haven showed up on the mall's final day. Marge Seidl of South County will miss the camaraderie of her fellow walkers. "The people...so many friendships. So many problems have been solved," she said. "You come here in the morning, you see people and talk with them. Then you go home and you're happy the rest of the day". Many of the Crestwood walkers figure they'll head to South County Mall to get their exercise, but Seidl deems it to be "too crowded". Meanwhile, Crestwood city leaders continue to work with the developer Centrum to possibly create a mix of entertainment, retail and residential space on the site, but discussions about a $34 million TIF to fund the project have held up its development.
