Gov. Bruce Rauner’s move to eliminate “fair share” payments from public sector employees who opt out of joining a union, but still get benefits from collective bargaining, is “blatantly illegal,” according to AFSCME Council 31 spokesman Anders Lindall.
“I’m sure his performance will not match his rhetoric at the convention,” says Henry Bayer, head of AFSCME Council 31.
A group of public employee unions called “We Are One Illinois” say they are open to negotiations.
A union leader calls it the “wrong medicine” and suggests it won’t matter.
