For the past three weeks, County Executive Charlie Dooley has said he will present his nominations the following week. The story was the same Tuesday.
The five-person board has been operating with just two members, one shy of the three-vote quorum, after a series of resignations this summer in the wake of an FBI investigation.
County Executive Charlie Dooley said earlier this week that Spence’s background check came back clean and he was hoping his nominee would be approved in the coming days.
Dooley nominated businessman and former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence to the board when former chairman Gregory Sansone stepped down in August.
The nominee for St. Louis County Police Board Chairman gives a sympathetic call to the former chairman, predicting he will be cleared in an ongoing FBI investigation.
“One of the tactics the Dooley administration used [in 2008] was to replace police board members in order to stack the deck in their favor against then-Chief Jerry Lee.”
“This is an apolitical board,” Spence said, “I don’t think my view on one particular issue should come into something that is a volunteer board.”
