Durbin Open to Extending Deadline for Rail Systems to Install Positive Train Control

Congress mandated in 2008 that railways have it installed within seven years, but didn’t provide financial support past the first year. Facing a Dec. 31 deadline, Durbin says he’s open to setting a new target date to let railroads become compliant.

NTSB: Amtrak Engineer Didn’t Use Cellphone Before Crash

The engineer driving an Amtrak train wasn’t using his cellphone to talk, text or download data just before the train derailed in Philadelphia last month, safety investigators said Wednesday.

Freight Train Derails in South St. Louis County

Mehlville Fire Department says no one was injured, no property was damaged, and, according to Deputy Chief Tim Dempsey of the fire department, the derailment was not a dangerous situation at any time.

Mo. Highway Buckles After Rail Cars Hit Overpass

A Missouri highway overpass that partially collapsed when rail cars smashed into one of its support pillars after a cargo train collision was about 15 years old and in good condition but just couldn’t withstand the impact, a sheriff said.
