Authorities say a man entered the 7-Eleven store at 5604 Gravois just after midnight on June 10 and shot Bhutanese refugee Mon Rai, 30, in the back, killing him.
Police say an officer patrolling the area saw two men he recognized from past encounters. One of the men ran and the officer chased him.
The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Mon Rai, a Bhutanese refugee who came to St. Louis last year with his wife and 7-year-old son.
In both cases, the suspect headed straight for the register and announced a robbery, showing the clerk a gun in his waistband.
