Mayor Francis Slay, Police Chief Sam Dotson, and Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce say that suspects using guns wait too long to see a judge and receive sentences which are too light.
Judge Jack Garvey wants to add court divisions dedicated to armed robberies and cases involving the unlawful use of weapons. Circuit judges are expected to vote September 16.
“If the folks in St. Louis feel that a gun docket would help them lowering crime and improving the life of residents then that’s something that is their prerogative.”
“You use a gun to commit a crime, go to prison. Period,” NRA President David Keene said.
