17-year-old Tavelle Coleman was inside a home in the 10400 block of Duke when several shots were fired from a passing vehicle.
The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. Thursday at a home in a well-to-do area of Cape Girardeau, a town of 40,000 residents 100 miles south of St. Louis.
Police are searching for a white Chevrolet Impala that may have been involved. The victim was found by his mother, who called police.

James Wilson was scheduled to stand trial today but pleaded guilty Friday to four charges – including second-degree murder.
Overland Police have identified the man as 22-year-old Zachariah Anderson.
32-year-old Aaron Lucy was sentenced Thursday. A jury in January found him guilty of first-degree murder and four felony counts of child abuse.
