House Budget Committee
State Rep. Tom Flanigan said Tuesday that economists and budget officials for the legislative and executive branches have agreed on a projection of 3.1 percent growth.
The governor needs to persuade only a little over a third of legislators to vote with him when they return to the Capitol on Sept. 12.
A billion-dollar bump to the budget may seem to contradict the hullabaloo about the state’s tight finances.
Democrat Sara Lampe cited her experience serving on the House Budget Committee, running a small business and working in public education.
If the measure is approved by the voters, later this year, there would be a cap of annual spending.
Future state spending would be capped under a measure passed by the House Budget Committee Wednesday.
The governor would no longer be able to charge his travel expenses to other state agencies under new bill introduced by the House Budget Committee Monday.
