Kansas City School District
The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Kansas City School District today because the district violated a student’s First Amendment rights, according to a news release from the ACLU.
For the second time this year, the Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a state law requiring unaccredited schools to pay for students to attend class elsewhere.
“Currently, there is just over 8,400 [St. Louis] students enrolled in charter schools,” he said. One in three public school students are in a charter school.
Supporters argued the state has a responsibility to provide students in failing school districts with an alternative.
Hearing will be in June
The Education Department is awaiting the outcome of a court case filed after a suburban St. Louis district kept out transfer seekers.
