Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon plans to propose a $50 million increase in basic school aid during Wednesday’s State of the State address, but some education groups already have concerns that it won’t be enough to avoid potential cuts.
Nixon said he wants six days added to the state’s academic calendar, a move he said would bring Missouri to the national average of 180 days.
The current system “is failing to provide an accurate picture of which schools are truly in need of improvement and which are performing well.”
