R. Bowen Loftin
R. Bowen Loftin, who led one of the country’s largest universities has been hired as the University of Missouri’s new chancellor.
“We are being held hostage right now,” Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin said on Wednesday.
Texas A&M, which has been in the Big 12 since its founding in 1996, said it will submit an application to join another, unspecified conference.
The statement by the school spokesman comes a day after The New York Times said on Monday night that university President R. Bowen Loftin sent a letter to inform the league it was leaving.
If Texas A&M leaves the Big 12, the move could create a shake-up across college sports.
