Scott Air Force Base
Scott Air Force Base spokeswoman Karen Petitt says the affected workers were notified Sunday that they should be back on the job Monday.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations, or OSI, tells KMOX News the unidentified man died last weekend after shooting himself September 25.
All Scott Air Force Base employees will report to work as usual Tuesday. Those employees deemed “non-essential” will then be given a furlough notice and sent home.
Federal lawmakers were trying Monday to reach a spending agreement to avert a shutdown after midnight. In St. Louis, the most immediate effects would include the closure of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and the Gateway Arch.
Spokeswoman Karen Petitt says the threatened partial shutdown may mean two-thirds of the base’s 5,000 civilian workers could be furloughed.
Mitchell was responding to an incident when he lost control, crossed an I-64 median near Scott Air Force Base, and collided with the Uhls’ car. He was driving 126 miles per hour.
The man in his early 30s was found in a Mascoutah parking lot with a gunshot wound to his head Wednesday.
Those stationed at Scott would help coordinate refueling efforts for ships stationed in the Mediterranean as well as air forces in Turkey and Jordan.
