A federal lawsuit accuses a St. Louis-area school district of failing to protect a former student from being sexually assaulted by a teacher.
St. Louis is now the largest district, although only by 311 students.
Supporters argued the state has a responsibility to provide students in failing school districts with an alternative.
Education policy issues include public school funding and dealing with the unaccredited St. Louis and Kansas City school districts.
The vote to maintain Missouri’s current tenure system comes one day after the Senate punted on an attempt to address the unaccredited school district in St. Louis.
The Jordan Danielle King-Willmann lawsuit is among at least four stemming from a Missouri law allowing students from unaccredited districts to transfer to accredited districts.
Students in the soon-to-be unaccredited Kansas City School District will be able to transfer to accredited schools starting in January.
Superintendent to conduct an internal investigation.
