Missouri House members gave the legislation final approval 149-1 on Monday. It now goes to Gov. Jay Nixon.
Jay Hoffman, D-Belleville, said he has great respect for Stan Musial but believes the bridge should be named after the men and women who died for the country.
Early in the non-debate there was a ground swell of support for naming the bridge after the late great baseball hall of famer Stan Musial.
“Stan Musial wasn’t just another baseball player, Stan ‘The Man’ was a role model, veteran and humanitarian,” said Rep. Dwight Kay.

“I’m thrilled to see the ‘Stan Span’ so close to becoming a reality, and urge my colleagues in the U.S. House to quickly approve this tribute,” said U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill.
The measure was approved by the Senate’s transportation committee last week and has been placed on the Senate’s debate calendar.
“Stan Musial Day” would be on November 21, Musial’s birthday if Republican Representative Dwight Scharnhorst has his way.
