Missouri House Approves Increased Penalties For Assaulting Police Officers; Audio ExcerptThe Missouri House has passed two bills increasing protections for police officers. Representatives on Thursday voted 120-35 in favor of a bill that would increase penalties for those who assault law enforcement officers. The legislature also approved creation of a “Blue Alert System” that would notify people when an officer has been shot or assaulted. Both proposals now move to the Senate.
Carjacking, Chase End In Violent Collision; Audio ExcerptA St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputy escaped serious injury early Friday morning, when his car overturned and slid an estimated 140 feet after being broadsided by a speeding carjacking suspect. Sheriff’s Department Captain Bruce Fleschring tells KMOX the 40-year-old deputy, who has been on the force five years, was treated at a hospital and released.
