asarah1 Steelman announces U.S. Senate bid

Sarah Steelman (

ROLLA, Mo. (KMOX) –  Former Missouri state treasurer Sarah Steelman used her website Wednesday morning to announce that she’s throwing her hat into the ring for U.S. Senate.

“We need to create an economic climate of growth where families keep their own hard earned income,” Steelman wrote on her website,   “The country’s total federal debt is at $13.7 trillion and rising. We need to stop the frightening growth of government not only in size but in the power it holds over our lives by cutting government spending; balancing the budget; eliminating needless regulations; and reversing unwanted Obamacare mandates.”

Prior to Steelman’s announcement, current U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill anticipated this move while speaking as a guest on KMOX’s Total Information AM.

“I think the Tea Party feels very strongly about Sarah Steelman,” McCaskill told Total Information AM hosts Doug McElvein and Debbie Monterrey.  “She’s, I would guess, running on a ‘no earmark’ pledge.  Jim Talent was a big earmarker.”

McCaskill defeated Talent in 2006, and he’s said to be “seriously considering” another run in two years.

The sniping by McCaskill has officially started. She knows she is going to be up against a similar situation that faced Robin Carnahan. The fear of the ‘dreaded’ Tea Party is obvious now. No more slights as being a temporary phase for the disaffected right wingers. This movement is real and will be the force in 2012. I hope we get other candidates too. No more machine candidates who become entrenched and forget their constitutional responsibility to the people. McCaskill IS tied to BHO regardless of how she positions herself. The economy is going to get worse as the real effects from this incompetent administration continue to unfold. Continue to keep your seat belts on as the ‘turbulance’ continues. Yes, Claire you are in big time trouble!
