ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Cardinals announced today they have signed former Astros and Yankees slugger Lance Berkman to a one-year deal.

Berkman, 34, is a five time all-star and 11 year veteran. He was traded to the Yankees July 31 of last year.

“We are extremely excited to have added Lance to our ballclub,” said Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak. “He’s an impact player who not only helps solidify our everyday lineup, but he also brings a wealth of experience to our team.”

Berkman is a career .296 hitter with 327 home runs and 1099 RBI. He also has a .409 on-base percentage, 4th among active players.

The “Big Puma” is coming off a statistically down year, hitting a combined .248 last season with the Astros and Yankees in 122 games with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.

You’ve got to be kidding !!!!!!!! Lance Berkman in the Cardinal outfield ! Class, hustle, power from both sides just what we are lacking – especially the first two.
