ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — A St. Louis deputy’s actions are being defended by the sheriff after the man shot and killed a pit bull.
The shooting happened Monday morning. Sheriff Jim Murphy tells KMOX the deputy was walking out of his own home when two unleashed pit bulls approached him in what he considered to be a threatening manner.
Murphy says the deputy shot one of the dogs; the other ran back to its yard.
“Our deputy really had no other choice,” said Murphy. Several witnesses supported the deputy’s story.
The deputy’s name was not released.
The surviving dog is in custody of the city animal control department.
